Activity 3.3.3.1 Current Events in Plastic Pollution
Six-Point Critical Analysis of Current Event
My blog posting is available online at: https://mikaenvironmentalknowledge.blogspot.com
1. Exploratory
Probe basic facts and knowledge found in the readings. (What research evidence supports _________? Type up several facts and basic knowledge from the readings. Relate this to what you find in other resources, prior activities for stronger scores.))
Plastic Pollution is a crisis in many areas of the world, but even more visible in developing Asian and African nations. Plastic pollution is so bad, there were efforts for a global treaty by the United Nations.
2. Diagnostic
Probe motives or causes. (Why? (Tell your reader why this occurs. Explain the causes in detail.))
Production of thousands of plastic products such as lightened cars, jets, space travel, were produced rapidly after the World War 2. Most of the plastic from land flows into our oceans and rivers, causing harm to wildlife.
3. Cause and Effect
Causal relationships between ideas, actions, or events. (If __________ occurs, what happens?)
If the mass production and pollution of plastics continues to occur, millions of animals will continue to be killed and will heavily impact our ecosystems. This will create a shortage in food supply and resources needed to support human life.
4. Priority
Seek to identify the most important issue. (What is the most important issue?)
The most important issue is the lack of reinforcement for the pollution and use of single-use plastics.
5. Application
Probe for relationships and connect theory to practice. (How does this apply to you? How is this related to culture as we have studied so far?)
The knowledge of the plastic pollution crisis educates me on changes that should be made in my everyday life, to help reduce the plastic crisis.
6. Critical
Analyze how this challenges your thinking/assumptions. (How did this change your thinking? Did it? Why?)
This new knowledge on pollution crisis has challenged my thinking on ways I can help contribute to reducing plastic pollution. I had no idea that 40% of our pollution is single-use plastic. Educating myself and my peers on how important it is to stay away from single-use plastics can be a good first step in improving our planet.
